Becoming eco-friendly is one of the best ways to save energy and increase energy efficiency.
Reducing your carbon footprint is not as difficult as it sounds and there are lots of small changes that can be made.
Use public transportation
Firstly – one of the simplest ways to reduce your carbon footprint. If you live near a bus route, train, or even someone from work you could carpool with then make use of it. Think about it, if you drive to work 5 days a week, say a 20 minute round trip. That’s more than 6 hours per month you are releasing emissions that are bad for the environment. Fuel efficiency is one of the easiest ways to do your part for our planet.
This reduces the distances and cost to the environment that it takes to transport, import/export food.
Keep an eye on your water usage
This is a really easy one to put into action immediately.
For example, when you’re brushing your teeth, turn the tap off when it’s not in use. Don’t leave it running whilst brushing.
Secondly, try timing your shower, and attempt to cut that time down by as much as you can.
When you make a cup of tea, just boil the amount of water that you need, over-doing it can cause unnecessary energy usage.
Turn the lights off
When you’re not in the room – make sure you are turning off the lights instead of leaving them on. Once you get into the habit of doing this, you will begin to just do it naturally.
Use re-usable shopping bags
A great tip is to keep your shopping bags by the front door, or on a coat peg so that you don’t forget them when you leave. Overall, make sure you always shop with reusable bags.
Talk to friends, colleagues and family members about the changes you are making to help the environment. Then, this might spur them into action to take the same approach as you!
Try using Apps to help you reduce your carbon footprint
A good idea is to install apps or use websites that will give you the extra push in the right direction. Eco Warrior Pricess’ article on the best apps for reducing carbon footprint is a great place to start – you can read it here.
Of course, one of the most simple ways to do your part for the environment. Have a recycling box in your home and encourage everyone to use it.
Use food containers instead of tin-foil or plastic bags
They are re-usable and much better for the environment – this will help you to maximise the reduction of your waste.
